On a brisk, windy day, Derrick Jones ran away from the rest of the field in the USATF Niagara Masters Cross Country Championships on October 23rd. He raced the 6-kilometer course at Genesee Valley Park in 20:19 for an average pace of 5:28 per mile. Derrickimproved his time from the previous 6K race in Akron Falls by 15 seconds to emerge victorious over rivals Mike Melfi, Kevin Burke, and Kirt Komocki.
The day saw many notable performances from the rest of the team as well. Dan Sackett and Danielle Feligno both placed in the top 10 in their age groups, while the women’s open team finished 4th, the men’s open team finished 5th, and the women’s masters teams placed 2nd and 3rd in their divisions.
